Face Your Fears

I have experienced all face your fears options: Stranger things, Dead of Night and The Killer. I am already establishing the fact that I am a weakhearted soul. I enjoyed the graphics in all the three options. Most of the time when trying on a VR app I try to figure out how the app would have been made, the graphics and other aspects of it. My friend already established the fact that stranger things one was a little scary so when I tried it I was already spooked mentally so got scared easily. I still have that video of me jumping and screaming in real life, on the sight of the ghost approaching me in VR. I felt bad that the walking aspect could not be covered because it was Oculus Go. But had that been covered, the experience would have been so realistic.

Trying out another door: “Dead of Night” gave me goosebumps. I was scared beyond words the only reason being the ghost was a kid. I hate kids being portrayed as ghosts. I mean after Annabelle and other movies. Kid ghosts manage to knock my socks off. I was alone when I tried it so I got really very scared. The last door which I tried was the Killer which had a robot in it and so it wasn’t scary to me. In fact, there wasn’t any element of surprise for me. The time I tried the other two doors I expected something to crawl out any moment from behind or from the cupboards or suddenly from the front, this last door didn’t have any of it.
It is after trying this app I think humans manage to scare me more than other creatures. Humans are scary after all. They are the scariest intelligent beings with their intelligence sometimes making them evil. I am really thinking of scaring my friends this Halloween by showing them “Dead of Night”. Till next review “ HAPPY HALLOWEEN”.

Dead of Night

Slice & Dice

This was a puzzle game that involved slicing/ exploding the cube/cubes kept below the dice in different geometries, to make dice fall into a hole. There are almost 100 levels to this game and each starts with giving a hint as to if the cube needs to be sliced or exploded. You have to decide how you are going to slice the cube so that the dice fall in the hole. I really loved how the slicing thing works. The whole laser slicer that is attached to the trigger is cool. It rotates with the rotation of the hand as well.

I like the overall design except there were some flaws in the whole thing when you change between slicing and exploding mode! Your angle of view changes when you change modes(slicing /exploding) which is something you don’t expect it should do. Other than this the precision with which you can cut the cube by marking it with the laser slicer and then pressing the trigger to slice it is amazing. So basically when you slice the cube diagonally it automatically makes the cube topple and along with the cube the dice topples and falls into the hole. It is a fun game in terms of concept and a great idea. The further levels I think would involve just more complex geometry and a little logic as to how to cut/explode the cube so that dice fall into the hole.

I really liked this game and can play it again during my free time. Right now the initial levels are not challenging. It would be fun to see further levels and another mind wracking problem coming at me.

Is Epic == Sick?

I tried on EPIC ROLLER COASTER app on oculus go. I think angel was going to review it but didn’t upload. Anyways I decided to view graphics for this and try this game. I was more interested in trying out this game after working on our VR game because I wanted to see the camera movement and motion. I have to say that I was amazed, disappointed and felt sick at the same time after watching this. My head started spinning and I felt pukish. It wasn’t just me, one of my flatmates tried it without knowing the effects it had on me and she had the same reaction. But with another of my flatmate, she felt nothing. For her, it was interesting in the first go and then turned boring. The graphics are good no doubt. But the camera angle fluctuates suddenly at times which is bad. Also, the game takes a while to load because it is heavy. So yeah optimization is another thing which could be worked on. Moving through a place and spinning the camera was bound to cause nausea, I don’t know how it could be made to not cause nausea. The preview of the game was enticing that you have to sit through and experience new and wonderful environments. Another thing I noticed was the jiggly feeling that you experience when you go down on a swing was missing here. I could get that feeling during Cosmic Warriors but not here.

On a serious note, this game shouldn’t be tried by everyone because it can cause extreme nausea to some. I am still trying to recover from its effect. There are multiplayer options too I think it can be played online too. The new stuff here is that you can take a selfie, which turns out to be very funny because it is just half of your body, more like your avatar picture stuck on the top of the car.

Lastly, In groups you can try this app and seeing mixed reactions to it is fun and gives you a sense of perspective as to how different people react to the same thing.
