Generative AI in Heal, Crop, and Enhance
Generative AI has rapidly advanced, and Lightroom is heavily investing in this technology. I have led the design on several key projects:
- Generative Remove in the Remove panel, along with a complete design overhaul of the panel.
- Distraction Removal in the Remove panel. Lightroom will soon include features like background people detection and removal, reflection removal, lens dust removal, and wires/cables removal, with more in the pipeline.
- Expanding Image/Outfilling. This functionality, currently a tech preview in ACR, allows users to increase image bounds using cropping handles and fill them generatively without any prompts.
- Image Enhancement. Several generative features are now available, including super-resolution, denoise, and sharpening.
Generative remove
Quickly and easily remove objects that are on complex backgrounds with generative AI. Requires internet access.
Remove
Efficiently remove small blemishes or dust spots without an internet connection.
Detect-objects
Makes it easier to select the object you want to remove by simply scribbling or circling it.

With the AI-driven feature, Denoise, you can reduce noise while preserving detail. Ideal for photos taken in low light or using a high-ISO setting.

Generative expand
Go beyond the borders of your photo using the power of AI. Generative Expand lets you expand the boundaries of your photo and fills it with content to match.
Geometry corrections
The Geometry panel in Lightroom allows users to adjust the geometry of a photo, such as correcting distortion and straightening lines. Now you have the ability to fill in your photo with generated content.

Note that each of these projects went through at-least one round of user testing along with legal review, and QE evaluation. We do this to make sure the results received from use of Generative AI are not harmful and our models are ethically sourced. Below is a typical Figma page look while a project is ongoing.
